"Based on where civil infrastructure is at this point, we think we're still trending towards the early 2030s to be done with civil infrastructure,"
"Consistent with the lessons learned on the Eglinton Crosstown that we'd been discussing over the last couple of weeks, we're trying right now to think about how we front load systems integration considerations to reduce that testing and conditioning time,"
The province will not commit to an opening date for the Ontario Line, with civil infrastructure now expected to be completed in the early 2030s and the overall opening possibly after 2031. Civil works completion will be followed by a testing and conditioning phase. Earlier targets included a 2027 opening. Lessons from the delayed Eglinton Crosstown LRT and Finch West LRT informed planning, prompting front-loading of systems integration to shorten testing and conditioning. Groundbreaking has begun on the elevated downtown portion and four stations. The line will span more than 15 kilometres, include 15 stations, carry about 400,000 trips daily, and require three bridges over the Don River, potentially necessitating expressway closures for bridge work.
