Ontario Liberals demand public inquiry into Eglinton Crosstown LRT construction delays | CBC News
"Ontario's Liberal Caucus is demanding a public inquiry into the delays plaguing the Eglinton Crosstown LRT project which remains in limbo with no opening date in sight nearly 16 years after construction began. In December, Premier Doug Ford told reporters the transit line could open in 2026 or very soon after. An official announcement for the LRT line's opening has not yet been made."
"But he said, in order for residents to have confidence in the line, the province, TTC and Metrolinx need to make the following promises: A public inquiry into the mismanagement and delays behind the Eglinton Crosstown project. Compensation for businesses impacted by construction along the transit line. A rapid response taskforce to be in place from opening day to address any issues."
Ontario Liberals demand a public inquiry into the mismanagement and delays of the Eglinton Crosstown LRT, which remains without an opening date nearly 16 years after construction began. The premier indicated a possible 2026 opening or shortly after, but no official announcement has been made. Liberals call for compensation for businesses affected by construction, a rapid-response taskforce at launch to address issues, and guarantees to prevent problems like those after the Finch West LRT. The Liberals also want assurance that Ontario Line construction will avoid similar delays. The TTC says it will continue working with Metrolinx toward Line 5’s opening.
