
"Raheem McLaughlin, who was tried by jury at the Ontario Superior Court of Justice in Toronto, had pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder in the death of Shane Stanford, 33. Stanford was killed on Oct. 7, 2020. McLaughlin had represented himself at the murder trial with the support a court-appointed lawyer. In closing arguments Wednesday, McLaughlin and his lawyer both told the jury he should be acquitted because he was not the shooter and didn't know the killing was about to happen."

The shooting happened before midnight in the area of Regina and Khedive avenues, near Bathurst Street and Ranee Avenue, north of Lawrence Avenue W. Moments after the gunfire, Stanford's car crashed into the side of a home."

Stanford’s car crashed into a home, with the back window appearing shot out. He was found behind the wheel with a gunshot wound and was pronounced dead in his vehicle. McLaughlin pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder and represented himself with support from a court-appointed lawyer, arguing he was not the shooter and did not know the killing was about to happen.
