""most extreme test of the Science Centre's integrity a test that it passed flawlessly""
"'The Science Centre must be restored, reinvigorated and reopened at its current location by providing the funding that it requires. This would deliver a full experience faster and more economically than Doug Ford's preposterous proposal to relocate it to Ontario Place,'"
""distressed, high-risk""
Heavy weekend snowfall left the Ontario Science Centre's roof bearing record loads without collapsing, prompting calls to reopen the facility at its current Toronto location. The provincial government abruptly closed the centre in June 2024 after an engineering report found roof panels in a "distressed, high-risk" condition and announced plans for a new permanent centre at Ontario Place in 2029. Critics, community leaders and opposition politicians contend that restoring and funding the existing site would preserve cultural, educational and economic value and deliver a full visitor experience faster and more economically than relocation.
