India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi was awarded the Order of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago, the Caribbean nation's highest civilian honor, marking a historic occasion for a foreign leader. The ceremony took place in Port of Spain during Modi's two-day visit aimed at enhancing bilateral relations. Modi emphasized the long-standing friendship, with roots in 1845 when Indian laborers arrived. The visit focused on investment opportunities in sectors like energy and health, with significant commitments from Trinidadian leadership for collaboration.
"This honor is a symbol of the deep and eternal friendship between our two countries," Modi said during the awarding of the Order of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago.
"India and Trinidad & Tobago rose from the shadows of colonial rule to write our destiny of progress. Our nations stand tall as proud democracies and pillars of strength in the modern world," Modi said.
Trinidadian Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar stated, "This visit is more than just diplomacy. It marks a new dawn," emphasizing the importance of the partnership.
Persad-Bissessar also announced various investments in medical, energy, and technological infrastructure, highlighting the collaborative efforts between India and Trinidad and Tobago.
