Travelers without Real ID will still be able to fly after the compliance deadline but may face additional scrutiny during security checks. According to Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem, 81% of travelers already hold compliant IDs, including passports and military IDs. The Real ID law, which aims to enhance security standards for state-issued IDs, has faced multiple delays since its inception following the 9/11 Commission's recommendations. Noem emphasized the importance of these IDs for air travel and public building access while conveying a message of assurance regarding travel procedures.
'But people will be allowed to fly,' she said. 'We will make sure it's as seamless as possible.'
