""Our work here is not done. Nothing is guaranteed.""
""We've seen thousands, march back north, which brings hope and shows the resilience of the people of Palestine,""
""Like many in the Jewish community, I am optimistic and excited about the ceasefire and the opportunity for peace, for Palestinians and Israelis to thrive as neighbours,""
A multi-phase ceasefire between Israel and Hamas began Friday with agreement on a plan that includes the release of Israeli hostages and Palestinian prisoners. The truce prompted relief among Palestinian and Jewish communities in Toronto, while many expressed concern it may not hold. Tens of thousands of Palestinians returned to the heavily destroyed northern Gaza Strip as the ceasefire took effect and faced widespread rubble. The fighting killed tens of thousands and displaced around 90 percent of Gaza’s roughly two million residents, often multiple times. Local activists and religious leaders voiced cautious hope and warned that durable peace is not guaranteed.
