"Making fun of people is unprofessional. Governments should not dismiss the concerns of my community members, and I call on Carney to meet with us."
Two First Nations chiefs are calling for an apology from Prime Minister Mark Carney after he made a dismissive remark about Chrissy Isaacs, a Grassy Narrows woman protesting mercury poisoning. Isaacs seeks compensation for the contamination caused by the Dryden Paper Mill from the 1960s to 1970s. Carney's comment, 'I can outlast her,' was met with outrage from community leaders, who criticized the unprofessionalism of his response. The Prime Minister's Office stated that Carney could not hear the demonstrators but that staff engaged with them to address their concerns.
