"Fares will be free for the Finch West LRT for its official opening this weekend, Toronto's mayor told reporters as she and other officials toured the new Line 6 Friday. The 10.3-kilometre light-rail transit line, which has 18 stops along Finch Avenue W. between Humber College's north campus and Finch West station, is finally opening Sunday after four years of delays."
"We're leading the way when it comes to transit. Line 6 Finch LRT connects with TTC Subway Line 1, 30 TTC bus routes and regional transit like York Region Transit and Mississauga's MiWay. (Metrolinx) But while the Finch West LRT is ready to go, Ford said another long-awaited LRT line, the notoriously delay-plagued Eglinton Crosstown, will have to wait until 2026 at least for its official opening."
The Finch West LRT will officially open Sunday after four years of delays and will offer free fares for its official opening weekend. The 10.3-kilometre Line 6 features 18 stops along Finch Avenue West between Humber College's north campus and Finch West station. Mayor Olivia Chow and Premier Doug Ford rode the line and encouraged Torontonians to use the new service. Line 6 connects with TTC Subway Line 1, 30 TTC bus routes and regional services such as York Region Transit and MiWay. The Eglinton Crosstown LRT faces further delays and is expected no earlier than 2026. The TTC is considering a fare freeze for 2026 despite capital budget concerns.
