Alina Fernandez, exiled daughter of Fidel Castro, was asked about claims that Justin Trudeau is her half brother. She focused on Cuba’s humanitarian crisis, including the impact of U.S. sanctions and the possibility of military action after peace negotiations with Iran. When pressed about the family-lore conspiracy, she said only that Trudeau’s mother used to visit Cuba often. She declined to call Trudeau to investigate, stating that if he wants he is welcome but she would not. The conspiracy has circulated since around 2016 after Trudeau issued a statement on Castro’s death. Evidence cited against the claim points to records showing Pierre and Margaret Trudeau’s first official trip to Cuba in 1976, five years after Justin Trudeau was born in 1971.
