"Phibro writes, 'We appreciate Health Canada's review and the decision that allows us to bring this important product back to market. Because inventory in Canada was depleted during the interruption, we are actively replenishing stock.'"
"'Deccox is added to various feed sources to prevent coccidiosis, a parasitic infection, in various livestock such as cattle, sheep, goats, and chickens. It is a coccidiostat, not an antibiotic.'"
"'It is the responsibility of the regulated parties to address any non-compliance and ensure their activities meet regulatory requirements,' a Health Canada rep said."
Phibro Animal Health Ltd. has received approval from Health Canada to resume the importation and sale of Deccox products. The company is replenishing stock after inventory depletion due to a previous interruption. In February, Phibro informed customers that it could not import decoquinate, the active ingredient in Deccox, due to non-compliance issues with the foreign manufacturer. Deccox is used to prevent coccidiosis in livestock and is classified as a coccidiostat, not an antibiotic. Health Canada requires Phibro to ensure its supply chain meets good manufacturing practices.
