Bala Legion Heritage Manor in Bala, Muskoka Lakes is a proposed mixed-use redevelopment that replaces an existing legion property with a modern legion facility topped by four storeys of rental housing. WZMH Architects designed the project as part of an Elevate concept to turn underutilized legion sites into mixed-use community hubs and generate revenue to sustain branches. The redevelopment will include 128 rental apartments with nearly 30 percent designated affordable and 20 percent accessible, plus a restaurant, bar and ceremonial space. Funding comes from provincial support and the federal Build Canada Homes Agency, with municipal fast-tracking to address local housing shortages.
