City of Toronto launches 2 new boats to improve emergency responses ahead of summer season | CBC News
Briefly

Toronto has acquired two new boats, Fire Boat 334 and Rescue Boat 334, enhancing its capacity to respond to water emergencies this summer. These vessels, costing approximately $4 million combined, will allow Toronto Fire Services to access tighter and shallower waterways more effectively. Chief Jim Jessop noted that response times to certain areas, such as the Scarborough Bluffs, have drastically improved. The move came as a response to the growing number of waterborne emergency calls, with plans for increased waterfront activities underway.
The time it takes to respond to the Scarborough Bluffs has literally been cut three quarters with the new fire boat. It provides the Toronto Fire Services the ability to get to all areas of the lake, all areas of the island that were never accessible, and in a much quicker time than we ever had before.
Emergency services must have the right tools, equipment, and the capacity to respond to that increased activity and the enjoyment of our waterfront.
