The digitisation of French administration includes the ability for motorists to store their vehicle registration, known as carte grise, on the France Identité app. This allows drivers to quickly present their registration during roadside checks and update their information from home. Currently, this app is limited to French citizens who possess a national ID card. Plans are in place to extend access to non-citizen residents by the end of 2025. The app aims to streamline daily administrative tasks without replacing physical documents, providing secure access to crucial information.
The digital version of the carte grise is available via the France Identité app, which requires a French national ID card to register, making it restricted to French citizens.
The app allows motorists to present their vehicle registration certificate during roadside checks, update their information at home, and keep all official documents on their smartphone.
Anne-Gaëlle Baudouin, CEO of France Titres, noted that the new feature is a concrete step forward in simplifying the daily lives of citizens and reflects strong user demand.
Currently, France Identité is set to expand to include residents of France who are not French citizens by the end of 2025.
