""I had no idea what was going on. I was shell-shocked,""
""They ended up just giving us our essentials and ... we were immediately escorted out of the building by security.""
""one of the most blatant and ruthless acts of union busting in the history of the games industry.""
Rockstar terminated several developers at its Toronto (Oakville) studio while 31 employees in the U.K. were fired the same day. Three Canadian developers were brought into HR, told they were being terminated for breaching a non-disclosure agreement, given minimal belongings, and immediately escorted out of the building by security. Rockstar alleges the firings stemmed from "gross misconduct" and leaking company secrets. Union leaders called the dismissals blatant union busting. A fired developer said they were shell-shocked, and CBC withheld the developer's name citing fear of retaliation and blacklisting. Take-Two did not respond to requests for comment, and protesters picketed outside the studio.
