Canada Post paints bleak financial picture, hints at big job cuts | CBC News
"Canada Post is effectively insolvent,"
"It was the largest quarterly loss in the company's history,"
"continued labour uncertainty and disruption"
"Going forward, we will need to be a leaner organization,"
Canada Post reported an operating loss exceeding $1 billion so far in 2025, with the latest quarterly loss at $541 million before tax. The chief financial officer stated the corporation is effectively insolvent and that the latest quarter was the largest quarterly loss in the company's history. Continued labour uncertainty and disruption from an ongoing labour dispute were cited as contributors to the losses. The federal government proposed measures such as ending home delivery and closing some rural outlets to stabilize finances. Canada Post privately submitted a modernization plan to Ottawa. The CEO said the workforce will be reduced through attrition, anticipating more than 16,000 departures by 2030 and another 14,000 by 2035.
