Canada and India will move quickly to advance a trade deal after two years of strained relations. Leaders at the G20 agreed to restart stalled trade talks following a meeting between Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Canada suspended trade talks in 2023 after police accused New Delhi of involvement in the assassination of a Sikh activist near Vancouver. Carney will visit India early next year with a goal to double non-U.S. trade over the next decade. Canada seeks to diversify exports beyond the United States and is also pursuing better relations with China.
