A truck carrying around 70,000 lbs of honeybees overturned near the Canadian border in north-western Washington state, releasing about 250,000 bees. Local sheriff deputies and bee experts quickly responded to help rescue the bees while some deputies took refuge in their cars to avoid stings. The driver was uninjured, and it is believed that the trailer rolled due to poor navigation of a sharp turn. Officials are working to plan the safe recovery of the bees by closing roads and urging the public to stay clear of the area.
Local sheriff deputies and bee experts swarmed to the scene, where they removed the box hives to help recover and rescue as many bees as possible.
The driver of the truck was not injured... the driver likely did not navigate a sharp turn well enough, causing the trailer to roll.
