Beautiful, wonderful, or Toronto transit's black eye? Whatever it is, the Eglinton Crosstown is finally open | CBC News
"Fifteen years after construction first started, the Eglinton Crosstown LRT line has finally opened Sunday morning. On Tuesday, the TTC confirmed a phased start to service on Line 5 and that it would be free of charge on its first official day. The first westbound train will leave Kennedy Station at 7:30 a.m., with the eastbound train at Mount Dennis Station following suit at 7:37 a.m."
"The phased rollout means service will be on a limited schedule for an undisclosed amount of time, running from 5:30 a.m. to 11 p.m. Monday to Saturday and from 7:30 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Sundays. Trains will eventually go until 1:30 a.m. when the line runs at full service. At the opening ceremony Friday, Toronto Mayor Olivia Chow and Ontario Premier Doug Ford did not shy away from their criticism of the delayed project."
The Eglinton Crosstown LRT (Line 5) opened Sunday morning after 15 years of construction. The TTC confirmed a phased start with service free on the first official day. Initial departures are scheduled from Kennedy Station westbound at 7:30 a.m. and from Mount Dennis eastbound at 7:37 a.m. Phased service will run on a limited schedule — 5:30 a.m. to 11 p.m. Monday to Saturday and 7:30 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Sundays — with full service extending trains until 1:30 a.m. City and provincial leaders acknowledged delays but said Line 5 will shorten travel times for commuters and will be refined using rider feedback and upgraded signal priority systems.
