Public Services and Procurement Canada has not confirmed whether existing office capacity can accommodate the new mandatory in-office requirements. Most public servants currently work three days in the office and executives four, but executives must be full-time in the office starting in May and other public servants must be in-office at least four days a week starting in July. The public service workforce has grown by more than 57,000 workers (almost 20 percent) since 2020 while Ottawa has been reducing office stock and committed to cutting office space by 50 percent over ten years, a target that will be adjusted.
