Caledon council considered a motion by Mayor Annette Groves to conditionally approve importing fill to 0 Shaw's Creek Rd., pending a de-watering plan and soil testing. The property is owned by Calvalley Farms Ltd., registered to developer Nick Cortellucci. The site was formerly a Warren Pavings gravel pit that went below the water table and formed a pond; the company surrendered its license and rehabilitated the land. Residents and volunteers oppose converting the rehabilitated pond known as Swan Lake into a fill site, citing risks to groundwater and the local well water supply. Keirstyn Parfitt highlighted the absence of groundwater quality and quantity studies and of an ecological assessment. Over 250 volunteers have organized to pressure council to preserve the site.
