A noticeable shift in Ottawa toward unleashing the economy, observes Grain Growers chair

"We had some very good meetings, both with Conservatives and Liberals, senators, everybody, they're all looking for ways to find solutions to unleashing our economy and unleashing the potential that this economy has. And that has not always been the case. Everybody here is listening and we're trying to find ways to work together and find solutions to make this happen."

"There's been a noticeable shift in Ottawa toward economic priorities, with that message permeating from the Prime Minister's Office down to the staff level. The delegation emphasized four key priorities: recommitment to agricultural research and development within AAFC, investment in trade-enabling infrastructure to reduce bottlenecks and improve reliability, continuous trade engagement to minimize tariffs and boost market access, and supply chain reliability with modernized labour dispute resolution."

Twenty-five representatives from Grain Growers of Canada member organizations visited Parliament Hill for Grainsweek, conducting approximately 35 meetings with Members of Parliament, Senators, and federal staff, including a roundtable with Agriculture Minister Heath MacDonald. Chair Scott Hepworth noted a significant shift in Ottawa toward economic priorities aimed at unleashing growth and productivity. The delegation emphasized four key priorities: recommitment to agricultural research and development within AAFC, investment in trade-enabling infrastructure to reduce bottlenecks, continuous trade engagement to minimize tariffs and boost market access, and supply chain reliability with modernized labour dispute resolution. They also discussed the need for greater transparency regarding staff cuts and research facility closures within Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada.
