4 teens and 80-year-old man injured in head-on Gloucester crash

A head-on crash on Route 128 in Gloucester injured four teenagers and an 80-year-old man early Monday morning. The collision happened around 1:45 a.m. on the A. Piatt Andrew Bridge. One vehicle rolled over, requiring the extrication of two individuals. An 18-year-old male was transported in critical condition to a Boston hospital. A 19-year-old female was critically injured and transferred to Tufts New England Medical Center. Another 19-year-old female was treated and released. The 80-year-old male was also in critical condition after being transferred to Lahey Hospital. The crash is under investigation by State Police.
An 18-year-old man, who had been trapped in one of the vehicles, was flown via a medical helicopter to a Boston hospital in critical condition.
A 19-year-old woman was taken to Beverly Hospital and then transferred to Tufts New England Medical Center, where she was in critical condition as of Monday.
Gloucester Mayor Greg Vega said in a statement that the crash "deeply affected our community." He emphasized, "We are a city that cares deeply - we're all holding those impacted in our hearts right now."
