""Guns brought from U.S.," says police Chief Tanner said all of the seized guns are believed to have been brought to the country from the United States. "What you're seeing is the tip of an iceberg of a very prevalent issue where firearms are too readily accessible to dangerous criminals because of their ability to still bring them across the border," Tanner said. "These are not random or opportunistic acquisitions," Tanner told reporters at the conference. He said the vast majority of illegal firearms in Canada are brought to the country from the U.S. Once here, they fuel violence, he said."
Halton police arrested and charged four men in a six-month investigation into a coordinated firearm trafficking network. Police seized 24 handguns intended to be sold or used on the streets, along with ammunition. Large quantities of drugs were also found, including several kilograms of cocaine and about 16,000 oxycodone tablets. Investigators recovered more than $375,000 in Canadian cash and cryptocurrency. The accused face over 30 criminal charges, and two were under court-related conditions at the time of arrest. Police said the firearms were believed to have been brought from the United States and that the network likely extended beyond the region with municipal, provincial, and international connections. The investigation remains ongoing.
