'You're hurting me': Family sues after Bay Area woman, 72, dies after arrest
"In a government tort claim obtained by SFGATE, attorney Melissa Nold filed on behalf of Rudolfo Ramirez, alleging in the filing that his wife Yolanda Ramirez was "violently arrested" while driving to her brother's home in Brentwood on Sept. 26, 2025, to take him to a medical appointment. "Upon her arrival ... nobody answered the door," the claim stated. "Mrs. Ramirez was calling into the house, trying to get her brother's attention. Brentwood Police Department was summoned to the home, for unknown reasons.""
""Within a few minutes an ambulance arrived, and multiple police officers and EMT's had to carry Mrs. Ramirez out of the car," the claim continued. "At this point she was covered in vomit and appeared to be unconscious." Yolanda Ramirez was taken to a Kaiser facility in Antioch, then transferred to the John Muir Health medical center in Walnut Creek for emergency brain surgery"
Yolanda Ramirez, 72, went to her brother's Brentwood home on Sept. 26, 2025, to take him to a medical appointment and found no answer at the door. Witnesses say a female officer initially spoke with her before a male officer arrived, ran toward Ramirez with handcuffs, grabbed her, forced her to kneel, and allegedly struck her head against a patrol car window. Witnesses reported Ramirez crying that she was being hurt and appearing confused about the arrest. EMTs carried Ramirez from the patrol car; she was covered in vomit, appeared unconscious, and underwent emergency brain surgery after transfer. An attorney filed a government tort claim on behalf of Rudolfo Ramirez alleging a violent arrest.
