More than 100 people gathered at Mission Viejo's Norman P. Murray Center on Aug. 14 to discuss death, its inevitability, and end-of-life choices. Senate Bill 403 aims to lift the sunset date on California's End of Life Option Act, which permits Medical Aid in Dying (MAID) for terminally ill adults with six months or less to live and who can self-administer medication. MAID has been law in California since 2016 but is set to expire in 2031, making California the only state with an expiration. Experts answered practical questions about insurance, legal definitions, and moral concerns.
