Scott Wiener has been a leading advocate for removing barriers to housing construction, including the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA). Brian Hanlon of California YIMBY praised Wiener for authoring consequential, sometimes controversial bills and called him a strong housing champion who goes the extra mile. Chakrabarti, who launched a campaign against Pelosi, is worth at least $167 million, much of it equity in Stripe, and could self-fund his campaign. Wiener reported raising more than $1 million with $867,105 cash on hand. Chakrabarti reported just under $1 million in contributions, significant personal loans, $95,384 cash on hand and $755,000 in debts. Pelosi is described as a longtime prolific Democratic fundraiser.
