Whole Foods closes original Mill Valley market
"What I'm told from Whole Foods and Amazon leadership is that it just isn't working to have two stores in Mill Valley that close together,"
"It doesn't work in their business model."
"We value our relationship with the Mill Valley community and look forward to continuing to serve our customers at our nearby Blithedale store."
"For over three decades, this store has been more than just a grocery store - it has been a community hub, a place with character, and an essential resource for local families, seniors, and workers."
Whole Foods will close the Miller Avenue store in Mill Valley and continue serving customers at the nearby East Blithedale Avenue location. The company determined that operating two stores so close together did not fit its business model. Employees at the Miller Avenue store were transferred to other nearby markets. The Miller Avenue market closed in July after a rat infestation that led to discarded inventory and an extensive cleanup; fencing and "temporarily closed" signs were posted and a roof repair recently finished. A petition to save the store gathered more than 1,600 signatures and local shoppers voiced concern about losing a neighborhood grocery resource.
