Vicious squirrel sends 2 San Rafael residents to ER after neighbors report series of attacks
""It clamped onto my leg. The tail was flying up here. I was like, 'Get it off me, get off me!' I didn't want to touch it," said Joan Heblack."
""Squirrel went from the floor tried to jump up to my face, I tried to protect my face, my arm was completely overcome by squirrel. Finally it jumped off, by then I was full of blood, I run to the emergency room," Campoy said."
"Potter said squirrels are not vectors for rabies. The aggressive behavior was likely due to the animal being fed and cared for by humans when it was small."
Multiple people in Lucas Valley and the Mount Lassen Drive area of San Rafael suffered sudden squirrel attacks that required emergency room care. Victims reported the squirrel clamped onto legs, leapt toward faces, and left people bloodied and shaken. Neighbors posted flyers and reported about five attacks possibly linked to a single goldish-colored squirrel. The incidents generated local reports and conversations on community platforms. WildCare stated that squirrels are not rabies vectors and suggested the aggression likely stemmed from early human feeding and socialization rather than disease.
