Federal authorities announced they will not comply with California's ban on law enforcement agents wearing masks during operations. Acting Los Angeles U.S. Attorney Bill Essayli said the law would not be enforceable against federal immigration agents and argued California lacks jurisdiction over federal operations. Gov. Gavin Newsom signed Senate Bill 627, the No Secret Police Act, which restricts immigration enforcement and bans masks and is slated to take effect in January. Essayli directed agents that the law would not affect them and said Newsom must go through Congress to regulate federal agents.
