Tahoe Black Bear Makes Self at Home on Holiday Ice Rink at Heavenly Ski Resort
"He has become somewhat of a local celebrity, often wandering through the village at night or early mornings on a stroll."
"I guess he wanted to try it out."
"No shoes on ice!"
"Do not carry children on skates."
The Shops at Heavenly Village opened an outdoor ice rink at the California-Nevada border near Heavenly ski resort. A male black bear known as Charlie entered the rink before public opening and spent about ten minutes on the ice. Charlie is familiar to locals and often wanders through the village at night or early morning. Facility spokesperson Dreu Murin reported Charlie was the first to use the ice this season and noted he appeared to try it out. Village operators emphasized rules against feeding or interacting with bears and reminded visitors of rink safety guidelines. Heavenly ski resort opens for skiing November 21.
