Suspect arrested in triple shooting at Bay Area's Valley Fair mall
"During the argument, the suspect allegedly took out a gun from his waistband and fired multiple rounds inside the mall at 2855 Stevens Creek Blvd. The man and two people believe to have been bystanders, a woman and a 16-year-old girl, were hit by gunfire and suffered non-life threatening injuries. Police said they believe it was an isolated shooting. After the shooting, countless videos circulated on social media from shoppers inside the mall who were evacuated."
"Several videos posted to TikTok and Instagram show people running out of the mall, with some screaming and falling over and others with their hands up. Other social media videos show customers hiding quietly in an Abercrombie store and police escorting employees of another store through a back entrance. The mall reopened on Saturday and customers were able to retrieve their cars and belongings that were left behind."
""A single violent act won't define this community or this city. Today, Valley Fair is alive again with families shopping, friends gathering, and officers standing watch to ensure everyone feels safe," SJPD said in a Saturday Facebook post. In its news release, SJPD Chief Paul Joseph said the department increased its patrols at the mall through the weekend. "A shooting in a crowded mall on a busy shopping day is deeply concerning," Jospeh said."
A suspect was arrested Sunday night in connection with a triple shooting at Westfield Valley Fair mall in San Jose that occurred Friday evening. The San Jose Police Department announced the arrest and posted a photo of a man in handcuffs with his head blocked out. The shooting occurred around 5:40 p.m. on a busy shopping day and investigators believe it was gang-motivated after a verbal altercation. The suspect allegedly fired multiple rounds from his waistband, wounding a man, a woman and a 16-year-old girl with non-life-threatening injuries. Police called the incident isolated, increased patrols, and the mall reopened Saturday.
