"Two e-bike riders were dead following a crash in Sacramento County, according to the California Highway Patrol. CHP said two e-bike riders were struck by a Nissan Titan pickup truck around 9:15 p.m. in the area of Eagles Nest Road and Woodring Drive, just south of the Mather Golf Course. The e-bicyclists were stopped at a stop sign."
""They were actually stopped, per witnesses. They were stopped at the stop sign when the pickup truck was traveling at an extreme high rate of speed, lost control, ran them both over," Angie Monroe, a public information officer with CHP East Sacramento, said. Monroe said two male subjects ran from the scene into nearby fields. One was detained. The other was arrested at his house for felony hit and run, including great bodily injury or death to two others."
""We do have word from witnesses that all of these groups of young men were hanging out, possibly drinking together in the dirt fields a little further down, and that they're all known to one another," Monroe said. "There's several different witnesses who all say that the truck was packed." Two other people were also transported to the hospital. One person has major injuries while the second has moderate injuries, according to the Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District."
""It's disheartening to know that people feel the need to drive so recklessly when it's so senseless," Monroe said. "So many lives are changed." Alcohol is suspected to be a factor in the crash. The ages and identities of the victims have not yet been released. The crash prompted a road closure and did not reopen until after 4 a.m."
