A 7-month-old infant choked on a hair clip and became unable to breathe. Corporal Greggory Cates arrived first after a 911 call and the frantic mother handed him the baby. Cates performed the Heimlich maneuver, after which the infant made a sound indicating breathing had returned. The baby was taken to a hospital as a precaution, with Cates accompanying the family. The bodycam video of the rescue continues to affect Cates emotionally. The City of Orange awarded Cates the Life Saving Medal, and he emphasized that his job is about service.
