Aisha Wahab, state senator for California's 10th District, filed a Jan. 5 federal candidate filing indicating potential interest in Congressional District 14, which covers most of Alameda County. The congressional seat is open because Rep. Eric Swalwell is running for governor. Wahab's state Senate district covers Hayward, Union City, Newark, Fremont, Milpitas and parts of San Jose, Santa Clara and Sunnyvale. Her state Senate seat is up for reelection in 2026, and campaign finance records show her 2026 reelection committee remains active. The Jan. 5 filing allows for the possibility of delaying a congressional run until 2028. A Wahab congressional candidacy would leave her state Senate seat open and create another competitive Silicon Valley race.
