The Santa Clara County FireSafe Council announced the receipt of a $185,000 grant for wildfire resilience projects in Los Gatos communities. Funded by San Jose Water, the grant targets areas identified as having very high fire hazard severity. The funds will facilitate the installation of N5 Sensors for smoke detection and improved roadway signage for emergency services. Additionally, the council plans to create educational materials on wildfire resilience. Plans for a new public restroom facility with advanced sanitation features were also announced, with a ribbon-cutting event postponed for an unspecified date.
The grant was given to the council by San Jose Water for wildfire resilience efforts in the Call of the Wild and Chemeketa Park communities in Los Gatos.
Cal Fire's most recent Fire Hazard Severity Zone maps list these communities as areas with very high fire hazard severity, bordering critical water source areas.
The money will be used to buy and install five new N5 Sensors, AI enabled wildfire smoke detection systems, in the Call of the Wild neighborhood.
A new public restroom, the Exeloo, will enhance efficiency, cleanliness and safety for users with self-cleaning capabilities and touchless sensors.
