""We wish Matt the best of luck in his new position,""
""It's really that sense of home that drew me to Gilroy, that being able to get back to the community that I grew up in and make a difference, make a mark in that community,""
""We thought Matt was the person who could best carry out the vision and goals of the city of Gilroy and the city council,""
Matt Morley will leave his role as Saratoga city manager to become Gilroy city administrator on Feb. 9. Morley served in Saratoga since spring 2024 and helped organize a Safe Routes to School event, guided staff through more than 20 builder's remedy housing applications, negotiated a retraction for a Chester and Allendale project application, and helped launch an AI-based search engine for the city website. Morley's tenure in Saratoga was brief compared with predecessors who served a decade or more. Family ties in Gilroy motivated the move. Gilroy hired Morley after Jimmy Forbis's retirement, with priorities including economic development and homelessness.
