Rick Callender, CEO of the Santa Clara Valley Water District since 2020, will step aside on March 1 and serve one year as an advisor to board chairman Tony Estremera. He will continue to receive his $520,000 salary and benefits until stepping down March 1, 2027. The district provides drinking water and flood protection to two million Santa Clara County residents. Callender went on leave in December 2024 after a female employee filed a complaint and two others later filed complaints. In January 2025 his attorney requested his personnel file and threatened litigation alleging a hostile work environment. The board approved the agreement 6-1 after a closed session; Rebecca Eisenberg voted no.
