A jury in Morgan Hill acquitted Brett Bymaster of charges alleging sexual abuse of a girl from age eight to 13 and additional allegations from the accuser's sister. The verdict came more than a year after Bymaster's arrest. Bymaster said the verdict revealed truth and expressed readiness to return to ministry and community service while praying for healing for all involved. Deputy District Attorney Christopher Paynter expressed disappointment, affirmed respect for the criminal justice process, and requested privacy for the victims and their families. Bymaster served as a youth pastor at The River, founded a clinic for low-income families, and left the church after a critical 2019 job review; an internal inquiry labeled him a "toxic leader who was spiritually abusive."
