Sam Seibert died on Nov. 30 at age 106. More than 200 people — members of the San Jose Fire Department, city officials, family members and friends — attended a Jan. 6 celebration of life at the San Jose Fire Museum that began at 1:06 p.m. in honor of his age. Doreen Below, his niece, placed his ashes into a memorial grandfather clock during the ceremony. Seibert was born Aug. 26, 1919, served in the U.S. Navy in World War II, joined the San Jose Fire Department in 1946, rose to captain and retired 30 years later. He collected and repaired watches and clocks and helped establish the San Jose Fire Museum and convert old Fire Station No. 1 into the museum after it closed in 2000.
