A San Jose neurologist filed a 2023 lawsuit against Coup de Thai alleging that a 2021 appetizer called Dragon Balls caused chemical burns to her vocal cords, esophagus and inside her right nostril and resulted in permanent injuries. The lawsuit names the restaurant, its owner, the chef, a waitress who took the order and others, and accuses Coup de Thai of gross negligence while seeking unspecified damages, medical expenses and lost income. The trial originally set for March 23 was rescheduled to Nov. 9 after the plaintiff requested a delay to attend a relative's wedding in Viet Nam and escort elderly parents, citing prepaid, non-refundable tickets. The judge noted both sides sought the postponement.
