Rats swarming Vallejo Ferry Terminal spark health concerns and city response
Briefly

Commuters and workers at the Vallejo Ferry Terminal report a significant rat problem, with sightings of numerous rats near the terminal's grass and dumpsters. City officials acknowledged the issue, stating they are working with pest control for an assessment. The appointment was rescheduled, but staff is prioritizing the situation. Employees expressed concern about the infestation, while some speculate that nearby homeless encampments may have contributed to the problem. Solano County's environmental health team is also involved, and no rodent activity has been found elsewhere.
"They're just running around our feet," said Nahomy Brenes, a barista at Panama Bay Coffee inside the terminal. "Running around like it's nothing."
The City is actively monitoring this matter and recognizes the seriousness of the situation. City staff are currently evaluating the issue, and they are working with a pest control contractor to provide a formal assessment.
"It's just really unsettling and very concerning for us and everyone else as well," Brenes said.
As for where the rats are coming from, some believe a recently cleared homeless encampment nearby may have displaced them.
