Prosecutors challenge witness' impartiality in Zoe Rosenberg animal rights trial
"it's not normal, Cabral testified."
"You're not a completely unbiased witness, are you? Hobson said. I would agree with you, Cabral replied."
"Deputy District Attorney Matt Hobson began cross-examination by presenting social media images linking Cabral and Rosenberg to prior DxE demonstrations and posts supporting veganism."
Carla Cabral testified that four chickens delivered by Zoe Rosenberg from a Petaluma Poultry facility in 2023 were in poor health, exhibiting diarrhea, lethargy, bacterial infection, missing feathers, inability to stand, and strong fecal odor. Prosecutors shifted focus to Cabral's potential bias by presenting social media images linking her and Rosenberg to Direct Action Everywhere demonstrations and vegan advocacy. Prosecutors had rested their case Friday, and Cabral was the defense's only witness Monday. Deputy District Attorney Matt Hobson pressed Cabral during roughly 45 minutes of questioning, including an image of a 2022 state Agricultural Committee meeting where Cabral glued her hand to a desk while Rosenberg was present. Cabral acknowledged she was not completely unbiased and was allowed to consult an attorney before resuming testimony.
