"helicopter that had landed literally in the middle of the eastbound lanes, the main body, or fuselage ... was in the No. 3 lane, and there's five lanes, so it was right in the middle,"
"I still can't believe that, because Highway 50 right now is an absolute disaster because it's under construction,"
"There's constantly traffic on that freeway, so the fact that no other person was injured, just the three, is nothing short of a miracle."
"pretty large debris field"
A Reach Air medical helicopter crash-landed on Highway 50 around 7 p.m., landing upside down in the No. 3 eastbound lane and creating a large debris field. Three crew members were aboard and no patients were on board at the time. The first fire battalion chief found a trapped female crew member and coordinated with 15 motorists to lift the damaged fuselage and free her. All three crew members were loaded into ambulances and taken to local hospitals in critical condition within 20 minutes. No motorists were injured. The FAA is investigating and the highway fully reopened just before 2 a.m.
