Both drivers were hospitalized; Cydear suffered major injuries and died 18 days later. A coroner listed the cause of death as complications of blunt force injuries to the torso and noted preexisting cardiovascular disease and additional hospital-acquired conditions contributed. Autopsy findings included multiple rib and pelvis fractures, chest and lung bruising, air and bleeding in the chest cavity, and a left clavicle break. First responders recorded that Cydear was wearing a seat belt and was initially responsive. The California Highway Patrol's Multidisciplinary Accident Investigation Team is conducting an ongoing probe. Investigators had difficulty locating relatives and reached a first cousin once removed.
