Organized retail crime investigations in California increased from 24 in 2019 to 734 in 2025. The California Highway Patrol seized more than 272,000 stolen items in 2025 through those investigations and 1,208 arrests. Nearly $17 million in high-ticket stolen items were recovered statewide in 2025. The Organized Retail Crime Task Force coordinated state, local, and federal agencies, with December operations producing 103 investigations, 239 arrests and recovery of 59,992 assets valued at approximately $1.2 million. Officials credited public safety funding, increased recruitment, legislative changes and stronger partnerships for enforcement growth and emphasized protecting businesses and communities.
