""It's really a crazy Christmas," said Jill Jenkins, who was spending the holiday with her 13-year-old grandson, Hunter Lopiccolo."
""We just played card games all night with candles and flashlights," he said."
""It could be a whole lot worse," she said."
A powerful storm soaked Southern California on Christmas, bringing heavy rain, gusty winds, widespread flooding, and mudslides. Forecasters warned additional rain could increase the risk of debris flows in waterlogged areas scorched by January wildfires. Burn scar zones stripped of vegetation were less able to absorb water. At least two people died in weather-related incidents: a San Diego man killed by a falling tree and a Sacramento sheriff's deputy in an apparent crash. San Bernardino County firefighters rescued people trapped when mud and debris rushed into Wrightwood. Roads were covered with rocks, debris, and thick mud, and more than 120,000 customers lost power.
