Lon Allan was appointed vice mayor of Monte Sereno by the City Council on Aug. 19 after filling Councilmember Evert Wolsheimer's seat earlier in August. Javed Ellahie resigned as vice mayor earlier this year for medical reasons. Allan was elected vice mayor by three of the four remaining council members. One vacancy remains on the Monte Sereno City Council. Volunteers with the nonprofit Art Docents visit classrooms to present grade-appropriate lessons in art history, criticism and aesthetics to about 3,000 Los Gatos students. A free fall mixer on Sept. 9 at Gallery 24 will feature Dasha Ortenberg presenting "Looking for Art, But Don't Know Where to Start?" RSVPs are requested and refreshments will be provided.

Allan was elected vice mayor by three of the four remaining city council members on Aug. 19 after having been appointed to fill Councilmember Evert Wolsheimer's seat at the Aug. 5 council meeting. Allan's term as vice mayor ends on Dec. 16.
"I had the privilege of being mayor 10 years ago and look forward to the opportunity of once again serving the residents of Monte Sereno, the truly lovely community where my wife, Mary, and I have made our home for the past 46 years," Allan said in an email to this news organization. There is still one vacancy remaining on the Monte Sereno City Council.
Volunteers with the nonprofit Art Docents a organization visit students in classrooms and present grade level-appropriate lessons in art history, art criticism and aesthetics. They serve the almost 3,000 students in the Los Gatos Union School District. They are funded by membership dues and community grants. The fall mixer will feature Dasha Ortenberg, an artist, designer, curator, planner, consultant and strategist based in San Francisco, who will present "Looking for Art, But Don't Know Where to Start?"
