"With the new year, the minimum wage has increased in several cities. In Palo Alto, it jumped by 50 cents an hour to $18.70 an hour, a 2.7% increase. It went up to $19.70 in Mountain View, which now has the second-highest minimum wage in the Bay Area. Emeryville topped the list when its minimum wage rose to $19.90 on July 1, 2025."

Minimum wages rose across multiple Bay Area cities at the start of the new year. Palo Alto and Los Altos increased to $18.70, Mountain View to $19.70, and Emeryville to $19.90 as of July 1, 2025. San Mateo County cities recorded increases from $17.55 in Menlo Park to $18.95 in Belmont. The statewide minimum climbed from $16.50 to $16.90 while many cities maintain higher local ordinances to reflect regional costs. Employers sometimes respond to wage hikes by cutting assigned hours. Ordinances frequently exempt businesses with union contracts, allowing some union-represented workers to be paid below local minimums.
