Milpitas will cover permit fees for eligible accessory dwelling unit (ADU) projects using funding from the Community Investment Fund and City Council allocation. The fee waiver is estimated to save homeowners an average of $5,000, with variation by ADU size and other factors. The program intends to encourage safe, code-compliant ADUs, support legalization of unpermitted units, expand local housing options, and improve community safety. Homeowners seeking new ADU permits or to legalize existing ADUs are provided phone numbers, email addresses, and web links for application and guidance. The Watershed Watch is accepting Earth Day poster submissions from K–8 Santa Clara County students, with judging on originality, clarity, and theme, cash prizes for winners, social media promotion, and a March 16 submission deadline.
